A 38-year-old Rochester man appeared in court April 9 on single felony counts of fifth-degree drug crime and fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle.
The man led police on a two-county wide chase starting at Oakland Avenue West around 11 p.m. April 7 after fleeing from an officer who recognized him as being the target of several outstanding warrants. During the chase the defendant threw a white substance, later determined to be meth, out of his window. The meth struck the windshield of the pursuing officer, disrupting visibility.
He will return to court April 22 for further trial. The man has a long list of prior drug convictions and was on supervised release since leaving prison in October 2009.

A man and woman in Texas were arrested Monday and police seized more than 300 pills and drug paraphernalia.
According to officials with the Marion County Sheriff’s Office and the Ocala Police Department, officers observed a 1999 Dodge sport utility vehicle sitting with its engine running in a parking lot in the 900 block of Southeast 17th street. Upon approaching the vehicle, officers say the driver, 22 year-old Amanda Blanchard, looked dazed. Before performing a field sobriety test, authorities say Blanchard was unsteady on her feet and her speech was slurred.
Blanchard failed the field sobriety test and was arrested. While searching other passengers, police say they found a needle, syringe, spoon, piece of string and small bag containing four Xanax pills in the pockets of 26 year-old Matthew Vealey. He was arrested and a search of the vehicle uncovered 323 1/2 pills.
Vealey could not provide officers with a prescription for the pills.
